There was many successes of our production and yet again some aspects that didn’t and couldn’t work out to make the whole project a great success. There was situations in planning parts of our assignments that I thought didn’t work out and that was thinking of ideas (which we came up with). For example for our radio advert we had to produce, and promote our music single and convince the viewers how good it is and to buy it, but we had some situations where it was difficult to explain certain aspects. Also as far as the location of our filming, some of the ideas we came up didn’t work because there were times that other people would get in the shot and this is not what we wanted because the music video was only meant to be four characters. Also choosing the best location to suite our music video was very important. However there were other days that ideas did work and was successful. For examplewe wanted our CD cover to relate to an old source and we came up with the idea of Scarface, only a newer version. This was also good because you can see we got the idea from it by the way we split in each picture black and white and i think it also goes along with the title of the cover. This is an example of Postmoderism.
The piece of coursework that I thought was the most successful was the music video because I’m very proud that we got the different kinds of camera shots that we needed to include to show different points of view. The storyline was quite a success with it meaning to be funny and taking in jester old films like Scarface and the Godfather. We make it seem like we are the next mafia but really we take it as a joke by dancing. To be honest the thing that needed work on the music video was the camera handling because there was a scene when we are dancing in the dark and there is light in the background, the camera shakes and this was bad because in the music video there shouldn’t be any since of shank in the camera which. I also thought that the ending they could have been more to tell instead of the use reaching for the bag and the little boy stepping on the bag.
If I was to start a new project, what I would do differently would be to rethink about the camera shoots properly and show the brainstorm more of the shoots that we would have to do. This is because when we first did the brainstorm it was poor and didn’t know most of the camera shots that they were asking for and we was sometimes mainly using the same camera shoot angles, so if i was to start it again I would change that and think as many shot angles I could use. Another thing I would change would be to change the music video and by that I mean change the song so that it would be less stressful. I would choose music that can be done either in the day and night so that we wouldn’t have to depend on the things and wait.
Looking back at the radio avert for our music single I listened to it and I would have changed the part when its the phone call occurred because I thought it was quite long. But other than that, it was great to listen to and thought that we covered what was asked and expected.
As a group we all had things to do, we would discussed together and see who was capable of what and if there was problems we would teach each other or either ask for help. This helped with our overall orgainsation. For example I was responsible of the CD cover because the programme Photoshop was hard for the other members to use, but I still taught them. We all took leaderships in the jobs we were going and looked at it together and thought about it.
In our music video there is a comparison of the real music video in that it is linear (we have a beginning, middle and end), with dance scene in the video and that is what we have in common with the real video but only difference is with our music video we added a storyline, while in the real music video it’s just dance scenes.
The audience for our media project is targeted at teenagers and above. Our group sat down and thought about it by thinking that the music captures the teen’s attention because of the instrument beat and they would find it exciting to watch and also listen.
We were able to meet the ideas of Post Modernism in our project because for example in our music video, we planned that we wanted the audience to think that the three guys are in a mafia. We got that idea from the film the Godfather and Scarface. We changed this in a way to make it funnier and as we catch the little, people would think that something bad would happen like making him pay, but that’s it we didn’t and so we turned it into a big dance off. As I said before, in our CD cover we took the idea of Scarface and used the same style of effects as it on our CD cover and also styled it up with our own ideas.
We throught that the combination of all three media texts went well together. It gave the audience an idea that all three texts linked together and that it helped to give our band a certain image. This image gave an attitude that we were in the mafia, (hard rollers) but still did not take our selves too seriously. We were not too serious about how we wanted people to look at us.
From the audience feedback I have learnt that, in the music video we should had made the ending to the storyline a little bit clearer so that the viewers would be able to understand it more. They also felt that while some of the camera techniques we quite effective, especially during the chase scene, there were some scenes where the camera was not held steady. I also learned that the audience viewers and opinions are important in order for our video to be a success them things that they commented about that would have been added would have also been a good music video.
I have learnt a lot, especially about the technologies from the process of constructing this project. When we started using Adobe Premiere for the editing of the music video we as a group did not know what to do and ho to use it, but with the help of the Premiere guide line from the internet we was about to learn the basic like transferring the recording on to the programme, cutting the clips to make it shorter and many more. We also got learnt some of the effects that was taught to us, for example using the transitions like, fades, horizontal transitions and many more. Garage band (auto editing) was another technology we have to use that was new to the group that also really helped use and we learnt from it. This programme was used to produce our radio advert. As a group we learnt a lot like, adding cool effects onto our voice, and dimming the music video low so that our voice was clearer to hear. There were also different sounds effects that we learnt and used like the telephone ringing noise. Photoshop was another programme technology that was used to create our CD cover and I all ready had experience using the programme, but the other members of the group didn’t know, so I taught them how to use it. We learnt how to change picture size, add effects on to the pictures, create text with special effect and also add colour to text and the image.
I’m pleased with the audiences’ response to the piece. Comments were made about the music video especially and how well it suited the pieces. They loved the camera shots especially the tracking shot of the little boy running away from the three guys. There were comments on the professional looking title and also how well the characters suited them. The widescreen format with the fading’s and transitions helped the music video to look more professional.
